TRASH IS NOT AN ARCHIVE! Trash is prevent accidents, nothing more! let me make one thing clear, if you're using trash as an archive of your messages, YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG. I am voting strongly against this feature request, because there IS s a reason it is specified this way in IMAP. The only sad part is that evolution is about the only mailclient that does it the right way, and all others are using POP3 style on IMAP servers.
