With trepidation I plugged my brand new Nikon D5000 into my Ubuntu 9.10 equipped laptop this morning to download the first pictures taken with the camera. Great was my relief when a window popped up offering to open F-spot or a folder. It thus seems that the issue is resolved for my current camera/laptop combination. It also seems that this is a problem that still must be solved. Getting an error message when plugging in a digital camera into a USB port is like getting an error message when trying to send e-mail. It is a function that is simply expected to work perfectly on all personal computing equipment today.
