If you configure your DHCP to deliver multiple search domains (option 15 on MS DHCP), then, after each ifdown-ifup/reboot/disconnect-reconnect using nm, you get the commas between the search domains on /etc/resolv.conf. I have 3 ubuntu 9.10 at home and 1 9.10 at work; all show the same behavior.
