@Mitsch: did you have to power-off your system(s) without a clean
shutdown lately? Or do you have your /home in filesystems other than
ext3?

I also lost my stickynotes once (in 8.10 I think). I was experimenting
with new graphic drivers and had some crashes and freezes and then after
a restart the notes were gone. I think stickynotes is not immune against
kernel crashes. It stores all the notes automatically and frequently
into one single file. If it gets interrupted by a crash while storing,
this file might get damaged or empty.
