Confirmed (sort of). Looks like gdm 2.14.10 fixed my suspend problem (see https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/gdm/+bug/50703) I don't normally hibernate, but when I tried it (from the login options menu) I get the "authentication failed" message as mentioned above.
