Additional information: When I plug in a USB flash drive, it does not appear on the 8.04 desktop, but does show up in Places>2.0 GB Media. I can access the files on the flash drive.
You mentioned "to be tested on karmic". Since I have VirtualBox installed, I tried out (as a guest) Ubuntu 9.10 beta upgraded to 9.10 final with updates as of 29 Oct. The USB flash drive shows up in the lower right taskbar for VirtualBox, but not on the 9.10 desktop or in Places>. In Karmic's Terminal, I tried "lsusb" and found the flash drive, but it still wouldn't mount. To make sure this wasn't a VBox problem, I tried out 8.04 and 9.04 as guests in VBox. The flash drive showed up on the desktop and in Places>2.0 GB Media in both (guest) Hardy and (guest) Intrepid; I could access the files on the flash drive in both. Out of curiousity, I tried to mount a CD of mp3 music files in (guest) 9.10. The CD showed up on the desktop and in Places>. The mp3 music files played well (once I had the plug-in for Rhythmbox installed). I am running Ubuntu 8.04.3 (host), VirtualBox 3.0.8, and the guest OS's mentioned above. -- Hardy - blank cd does not show on desktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/463930 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
