I've got what sounds like the same problem, except it freezes on opening rather during use, which makes evolution unusable. A backtrace is attached; to get it I launched evolution and waited for 5 minutes to try to rule out performance as a problem. If you look at thread 12, to my untutored eye it looks like it was waiting for user input for the password, but no dialog appeared.
I realise there are several packages without debug symbols in the call stacks.
