As I have the same problem I will answer:
the IBM X31 comes with a radeon 7000 (r100 m6ly).
"The XAA-codepath in Xorg video-drivers is unmaintained by now and will not
likely to see any further work. On such systems EXA should be enabled."
Without making changes to xorg.conf 9.10 RC starts per default with "XAA"
enabled. If XAA is not maintained anymore this should be changed soewhere?
