A helpful explanation of how EDS stores calendars on the Opened Hand bugzilla prompted me to save the calendar as an ics file in Evo and open it with Mozilla Sunbird on another box. I got the same result as with Evolution, so it would appear that the problem lies with icalx.com not Evo.
Can't see how to close this bug. Can a bug's owner close a bug? Does not seem obvious how and searching help.launchpad.net reveals nothing. Perhaps it should be retitled and linked to the wishlist bug I filed on GNOME bugzilla anyway.
