Attaching a 1.2 megabyte jpeg to an email results in the same behaviour. Running karmic beta with updates, evolution 2.28.0-0ubuntu4, kernel 2.6.31-12-generic. In my case I have to hit the power button to regain control. Definitely a showstopper for me.
