Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus
This happens on my Karmic installation (amd64) when I install all latest upgrades. On the desktop, the plain dot-desktop-files are shown instead of the usual application launchers with icons. If you doubleclick on them, the respective .desktop-file is opened with Gedit. This seems to be some Nautilus problem, since Nautilus in file manager mode likewise doesn't work as exspected. Folders are treated normally, but all files regardless of their content are considered as plain text files, for example if you doubleclick on a video file, Gedit will try to open it! Other file managers, such as Thunar, seem to work as usual. For my Karmic installation this morning I used the 9.10-Beta-Image and this bug occured when I installed all recent updates, not before. So some upload between Beta release and now must have caused the problem.
