This is not a bug, this is me being an idiot. I'm sorry about this one - it's simply a case of allowing the scripts permission to run as a program. This information is lost when backing up files, so when I restored the files after doing a clean install of Karmic the plug-ins would not work. Sorry to have wasted your time on this one.
