seb128, thank you for taking the time to answer this bug. As it so happens, Apport is already enabled on this host.
Unfortunately, your answer point to 1) running Nautilus on a host where it isn't installed, since I'm running LXDE or 2) towards launching an X session to run a GTK or QT version of Apport, in a situation where GDM crashing prevents someone from actually launching an X session. Fortunately, I happen to know about apport-cli, which is indeed installed on this host too. Unfortunately, I cannot send you its output, because Python in Karmic is currently extremely broken and this makes Apport itself crash. I thus welcome your pointers as to how an Apport report can be sent in these circumstances.
