On most attached emails, evolution automatically displays the attached emails. 
On this occasion, I only see the attached files as .dat files. When I try to 
open them, they only have the headers, not the text.
4) What happened instead
 When I try to open the attached files in a text editor, they only have the 
headers, not the text.
