I think what happened was the sub-menu was grayed out for me, and it wasn't completely obvious why.
It did feel like the kind of bug that you'd have to be nuking a Windows partition from orbit at the time to truly appreciate. The machine is still caught with the sickness, every circuit dreading that instruction processor leap into sector 0. Even though the system was already purring more gently, it was still weak, not yet fully capable. After some battling, the installer crashed for me [https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/50957], at which point I could have sworn I could feel the seething of the entity on the hard disk below towards my fingers. Not to be beaten, I noted it down on my bug powder dust trail, swore I'd curse that behaviour with a bugreport, and fired up ubiquity once more. The next time through we were much better prepared; not going to fall for the murphy's cylinder rounding again [https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/51396], I opted for a 2.5GB root, and then bore down upon that XP install with reckless and wanton abandon. With a firm pass through with parted and the installation checkmarked "go", I reflected upon how cool it was the first time I got to play Tetris while installing Linux, and how much infinitely cooler this was, installing via the LiveCD. So in this nostalgic moment I chose to log my bug reports, and finish it all off with a gratiutous game of Mahjongg, which, incidentally, was solved first time. That's when I knew that the installation had done the trick. Anyway, IIRC I had a partition space that I wanted to change to "don't format" that was already marked as being ext3. And, I don't remember "Format to..." being available. So, I reckon if you can't replicate that behaviour pretty quickly then this bug doesn't really deserve to exist much longer. All the best from NZ dude :-) Keep up the good work and have a great weekend. -- Can't edit partitions without adding and removing https://launchpad.net/bugs/51400 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
