Thanks for this reply - I'm new to reporting bugs in Ubuntu ;-) Perhaps the bug report should have read that the "Report a Bug" option in the Rhythmbox Help menu puts you in touch with the nice people at Ubuntu and not the Rhythmbox developers ;) But I guess this ought to go upstream too :))
