I am using jaunty amd64, and am having this issue. I did a tcpdump with encryption turned off (starttls encryption refuses to work but works fine on all other clients I use).
I never see it attempt to auth, even though server requires auth is checked. I does the helo, them mail from, rcpt to, and gets rejected.
