Regarding the hardware, could it be related to using a USB mouse vs. a PS/2 mouse? I am using a USB mouse but I would think that would be abstracted to the screensaver. Unfortunately I do not have a test machine available at the moment, so I cannot help test in Karmic. Thanks for looking into this for being a papercut, mac_v.
