@dobee: Video thumbnail generation does cause errors when large videos are placed in the desktop. But , it has more to do with the integrity of the video file, type , completion and several factors.
Is this crash for a file already saved or are you having this problem while using bit-torrents> Bug #79030 If it is for the latter the workaround is either turn off thumbnail preview[from Nautilus browser Edit menu> preferences > preview tab] or save the files to folder other than the desktop. Either way this is not a trivially fixable issue , Hence not a papercut.
