After some help, I now have this info about my video card: 0000:00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 01)
One of my main uses for my computer is producing cartoon animation, so I'd really like to get this color issue figured out. I tried the xvattr fixes listed above and saw some improvement - videos are at least watchable now. But the color still isn't really right. If/when this bug is fixed (if it is a bug and I'm in the right place) how will I learn what to do to apply the fix to my computer? Is this one of those things that will automatically update?
