I cannot confirm this issue on an up-to-date Karmic i386 installation. What video card/driver are you using? I suggest that you check this issue against the vesa video driver (and if you are using proprietary drivers, also try switching to the open-source driver) . This may help you to confirm if it is eog exposing a bug in your video driver.
