As I see, there are 2 different problems involved: 1. Some alsa or driver bug recently made beeps very loud, without any controls provided to the user to make it softer.
2. On shutdown, some problem is reported as a beep. If only problem 1 is solved, already fewer people will complain and Windows7 freaks will have to think harder to ridicule Ubuntu. But problem 2 is a different problem, and therefore I vote against making this bug a duplicate of bug #331589. Also if the beeps do not make my trousers brown, I still would like to have the option of no soft beeps on shutdown, but having soft beeps in other cases. ** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 331589 Extremely loud and intrusive system beep with (some?)
