Thanks for following up. I have just managed to get Jaunty installed. It was by far the most challenging Ubuntu installation ever for me. But I have it running now, so I will test this and report back... (I may need to take a rest from the computer for a day or so after this intense process of trouble shooting my installation problems for nearly a month!)
