Following the initial install of Ubuntu 8.10 on this Lptop no sound of any kind 
was available.

and worked my way though this as best as I could.
The results of the various Terminal queries and responses are listed in the 
attached openOffice.org document.
I think from this that my soundcard is not supported!?
Can you have a look and see what you think please?
As I say in the attachment I am a newcomer to Ubuntu and so have not the 
expertize to understand all of the Terminal query output.
I am very impressed by 9.01and will use this operation system from now on, but 
I would dearly love to hear some sound off thius laptop. 
(Sound is working fine on my old ACER Travelmate 2420 which I have als updated 
to 9.1)
