We talked about this on the DejaVu mailing list and concluded it was
because the TrueType instructions change the advance widths. Now, in my
opinion FreeType/Pango should not allow monospaced fonts to change their
advance widths, because it makes them no longer truly monospaced, but we
shouldn't be trying to change the advance widths anyway. We've begun
fixing the instructions and the fix for this particular problem is
already in Subversion.
