Yes, the bug definitely still exists. There has been some talk on this bug of fixing this for Dapper, was there any progress? It is very frustrating to have to manually delete files in .Trash-$USER (deleted files do not show up in the trash-applet either, bug #32466).
Both these bugs have _many_ duplicates and lots of comments, so this is obviously a serious bug.
