The bug is still present in Hardy and Intrepid. I have read in bug #292148 that upstream have removed all of the cpufreq code in gnome-power-manager for Intrepid. I don't know if this is correct as an explanation about this wasn't given in that bug report. Anyway I think that Ubuntu should allow a user to choose cpu freq by default and not forcing him to spend (as I also did) much time to find a solution via web to this simple issue.
