You have been subscribed to a public bug:
when attempting to change the theme (right click>theme>new theme), the
windows will partially change theme, change back then freeze the gnome
panel leaving only the user switching application working. I have to
manual restart the panel to get it working. logging off and then on does
not work, but on return the panel wont even show up until I do a full
restart to get everything back to normal.
