Yes, it's possible. I've found new clues. I've been trying to correct my MP3 ID data on the mp3 files in bulk. I would select a whole album for example and then set the Genre correctly and then commit. Sometimes these attempts return a gstreamer error (see attached).
I've found files that have some kind of encoded (timestamp?) on the end of the filename. I already deleted them all but this is a similar filename: somesong.mp3a23f3434e34b343 What I didn't realize is that these files are being recognized on the next startup of Rhythmbox as valid mp3 files. I think it's adding these leftover temporary files to the music library (which can create duplicates of the same song). Does this make sense? Perhaps Rhythmbox is having a problem erasing temporary files after it hits this gstreamer error? I had assumed the gstreamer was reacting to other invalid files within the same directory (like windows desktop.ini files and thumb.db files that seem to be getting created by other software for mp3 players).
