Hi! In the toublesome directory was subdirectory name having a couple of dots. After I had removed the dots (using Dolphin) Nautilus began to work ok also.
The direcory is a large picture collection so I did not like to move them elsewhere, but that seems not to be necessary anymore. If the broblem arises again I'll let you know.
