I've not seen the Jaunty release, so the following is just a suggestion. Syntax highlighting should be based on the file mime type - likewise when the syntax highlighting is changed the user should be prompted and asked if they want to update the file type (such that the syntax highlighting will remain constant when the file is reopened).
