user.

It sounds like it might be a kernel problem.  What I'd suggest is
turning on debugging information in pilot-xfer, and running a system-
call level trace:

You can get more information from pilot-xfer by
setting the environment variables:
        PILOT_DEBUG="DEV SLP CMP PADP NET SOCK"
        PILOT_DEBUG_LEVEL="DEBUG"
This output might shed some light on the level of the problem.
You could also try 'strace pilot-xfer -p /dev/ttyUSB1 -l'
which will produce a long output.

The output of these two pilot-xfer runs could be attached to this bug
report.
