Public bug reported: On my Intel D915 based motherboard based computer, if I shutdown using the menu in gdm using NX from a remote computer or use sudo shutdown now from a ssh terminal (also remote) or from a terminal on the remote NX session it doesn't shut down. However, if I use sudo shutdown -P now from a terminal in NX (remote) or a remote ssh terminal (without NX), it does power off nicely.
When it doesn't power off I get a screen asking if I want to drop into the root shell, or fix packages, or clean packages or reconfigure X (once I disabled splash in grub). Of course, I can't do much if I am remote at this point, either to finish shutting down or drop into a shell, as networking is already shut down. I kind of think maybe it would be nice if gdm issued the -P option on its implementation of shutdown for turning off the computer.
