First, the bug is also available in ubuntu but with different fonts. e.g in gedit change the font to KacstOne and you see the same bug.
Second, yes this happens with all the fonts from ttf-arabeyes package which is in main repository, e.g: ae_AlMohanad Third, font handling shouldn't be restricted to main repository fonts only. I can understand that universe packages are not officially supported but for fonts ubuntu should work with all the fonts as far as those fonts work in other linux distributions and other operating systems. Otherwise, a rumor would spread that arabs are not considered "human beings" here.
