Have just installed Intrepid and applied the latest software upgrades. With kernel 2.6.27-9 I get bad transfer rates (round 1000 kB/s), but booting 2.6.27-7 I get normal rates (> 20 MB/s).
I think we can conclude it's a kernel issue.
