I have a similiar issue with my PC and Intrepid installed. Occasionally the system freezes, when the screensaver is active and I press a keyboard key to get the password dialog. I am using the "Matrix" screensaver on this machine, and the graphics chip onboard is Intels "82915G Integrated Graphics Controller".
I have to login via ssh from another machine then and reboot (tried to kill X, but when it restarted, the mouse was still frozen).
