8.10 seems a lot more flaky about this sort of thing than 8.04. I've been tempted to go back to 8.04 a few times now. Mostly tho its just some eye-candy type stuff that seems worse on 8.10 but it's enough that when i get friends to try Ubuntu i give them an 8.04 disk rather than the 8.10.
I'm sticking with 8.10 for myself though, i do prefer it.
