I could not reproduce the problem - latest release (9-something). Note - I do NOT think this is related however the history of the documented herein problem is rather vague at this point - not a high priority item for my few remaining unfilled memory synapses - however, I attempted to install awhile back a user ID "vi" and that failed in interesting ways...believe it or not "vi" is an actual valid name in Vietnamese.
