Public bug reported: since gnome-session has changed to using gnome-power-manager instead of gdm to log out (at least it seems to me that's when the change occured), when shutting down the computer, instead of switching to usplash for the shutdown, the display switches to one tty (text mode, letting you enter "login" and "password" to login, with a blinking cursor, as if you hit ctrl-alt-f1), and only later switches to usplash (when the usplash progress bar is quite far) before shutdown.
before that change, when shutting down, the display was switching straight to usplash, for a much smoother experience. ** Affects: gnome-session (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed -- when shutting down, text console is shown and usplash appears only later https://launchpad.net/bugs/44344 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
