I'm having the same issue... Some people would consider this a security risk. I need to send confidential internal emails while I am traveling. To accomplish this I use a vpn with an ssh tunnel to create a socks proxy to a system in my office. I recently switched from thunderbird because of evolutions integrated calendar functionality and ability to sync with palm. Unfortunately I have to go back to thunderbird now due to the lack of confidentiality. In my opinion this bug should be assigned a higher priority.
