Steps to reproduce:
1. Put
ulimit -c unlimited
export GNOME_DISABLE_CRASH_DIALOG=1
into your .gnomerc file.
2. Log into GNOME so .gnomerc is used.
3. Start gedit .
4. Click the log out button at the top left and select Log Out.

Expected results:
No core dump.

Actual results:
Core dump.

Additional information:
I believe if you have an otherwise clean profile disabling syntax highlighting 
will resolve the problem.
