2.24.2 works for search folders that only use the Unread status. As long as you use other conditions and automatic 'mark as read' it doesn't work as expected.
IMHO this is has been a major regression, and it makes search folders mostly useless for me (I need to track flagged messages along new ones). As far as unread search folders go, the bug is fixed. But the fix only works with unread messages.
