I do not think that this bug can be closed yet. With Kubuntu 8.10 (with all updates) I can not switch user.
When I click 'start new session' on the 'Warning - New Session' dialog I get a freeze. (If I use vesa I successful get a new session - however when I return to my previous the graphics is a mess.) ATI 3870.
