It seems cups isn't accepting configuration changes, and gnome-cups-manager ignores ~/.cups/lpoptions.
If that file is coppied to /etc/cups the changes are seen and applied. It must be something related to running things with suid. If gnome-cups-manager is run with sudo, the changes get applied too. Should this message have something about things don't work: CUPS-Add-Modify-Printer: Unauthorized? It shows in cups' logs. This and samba issues should be critical bugs, "oh lets print... hmmm it doesn't work... damn Linux!" ;-P -- Wrong default paper size https://launchpad.net/bugs/9489 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
