Oh, yes! i believe the both of them are related, but it seems that there's different behaviours depending on the backend driver (uvcvideo, pwc and gspca). Also it seems that a lot of the troubles are related to gstreamer and v4l, and in the case of cheese it seems to be caused by cheese asking directly to hal instead of gong through gstreamer...
