Same problem here. After upgrading to Intrepid, Rhythmbox no longer gets the proxy settings from the gnome network proxy setting under system menu. Also, can't get the http_proxy environment variable to be used by Rhythmbox when using the terminal (exactly same as mentioned above). Receive the same error message and noted above too.
