I realized today that this no longer happens to me.  Totem is working fine now 
and, despite my best efforts, I can't figure out why.  My version of 
libxine-main1 is still 1.1.1+ubuntu2-6 .  So that does not seem to be the 
culprit.

Only thing I did recently is install the all-20050412.tar.bz2  codecs from 
mplayer's website.  I had previously been using a .deb of the w32codecs: 
w32codecs_20050412-0.0_i386.deb .

However, since I discovered totem was working again I got rid of the all-codecs 
from mplayers website and put back the w32codecs.  And it still worked.

Barrakketh, if you can confirm that it is now working for you too, I think we 
can consider this bug resolved.  Probably in an update somewhere (no clue 
where).
