I seem to have exactly the same symptoms as this report. I can't see any consistency to the lock ups, once was using netbeans, another seemed to be doing something with rhythmbox, and frankly both could have been coincidence.
No proprietary drivers are loaded, no particularly new or unusual hardware connected. System is an old Athlon XP desktop, IDE drives, nvidia GeForce card (nv X driver.)
