I think this is not a firefox-bug as more online softwer have this error. (Such Pidgin, Evolution.)
Skype, "Hálózatfigyelő" (network usage icon) and Weather forecast in the panel-add-on menu recognizes if I'm online. In my network manager icon I always see an orange triangle with "!" in the middle, independet of I'm connected or not.
