You have been subscribed to a public bug: Just open nautilus and resize the columns.
They simply don't do what I expect them to do. A behaviour like in OpenOffice Calc would be nice for instance: A movement of the column's title border leads to a resize event. But nevertheless the border I click on is moved in OpenOffice Calc. In some cases nautilus works as expected, but the leftmost column cannot be made smaller by dragging it's right border to the left (see the video). Maby this is also a general GTK problem because Rhythmbox behaves the same as nautilus when trying to resize the "Artist" column.
